Our goals

Ford & Slater is committed to our contribution to the local and business communities, both as a firm and as individuals. CSR plays an important role in the firm's strategic development plan for the future.

This strategic development plan is important for the following reasons:

• It benefits our local communities and improves the environment
• It engages with, and gains a better understanding of, the communities we work and live in
• It encourages team spirit here at Ford & Slater and reminds our employees to have fun!

Our corporate and social responsibility

Our staff recorded over 600 hours of voluntary activity during 2019. We have been working alongside Leicestershire Cares since 2008, an initiative of Business in the Community, and this connection has seen our workforce become involved in a wide number of initiatives, including:

Go for Reading: Ford & Slater volunteers attend local schools to help children improve their literacy skills and build their confidence when communicating with adults outside a school setting.

Number Partners: We have a team of four volunteers who work with local primary schools to help children improve their maths skills and build confidence, by playing fun numeracy board games.

Collect 4 Christmas: Every year we support Leicestershire Cares in raising funds and donating gifts for worthwhile causes, which have included: Victims of Domestic Violence; Age Concern; Barnardo’s; Homeless Families, Vista the charity for visually impaired and Toys on the Table.

Interview techniques: This program sees our volunteers providing local school and college students with interview technique practice, to hone their skills in readiness for the many important interviews they will all soon be facing.

Volunteering projects

Our employees have taken part in several community-based projects over the years. As part of their commitment to corporate and social responsibility, Ford & Slater releases employees for at least two team challenges per annum.

Our recent challenges include;

Digging over part of a field on a local farm, which had been donated to B-Inspired and Braunstone Food Share to grow crops and vegetables for people in need

The Green Lifeboat Scheme - eight staff members canoed down the River Soar to clear discarded rubbish that may cause issues for wildlife and pollution

A group of volunteers helped to wrap Christmas presents for Toys on the Table. These gifts were then given to disadvantaged children who might not otherwise receive a gift
